18 Air Max Jr. National Championships

Being seeded #1 in the American division of jr. nationals leaves no room for improvement. Such was the task for Oregon NW 18 Air Max heading into the final event of the year in Reno, Nevada. The tournament was comprised of 48 teams from all around the country that had to qualify either thru regional championship play or at a national qualifier. When the nets were being taken down and the courts pulled up - 18 Air Max was crowned the 2010 Champions. Playing on championship court Air Max defeated a team from Iowa in three games 20-25, 28-26, 15-7 to claim the first ever Jr. National title by a team from Oregon.

Cheyne Corrado (OH) from Central Catholic HS was selected MVP of the tourney. The all tourney team as included Tia Withers (OH) from Sunset HS and Haley Doerfler (MH) from Prairie HS. Big congrats to our 2 seniors on the team Ali Skayhan (S) Central Catholic and Olivia Shropshire (OH) Gresham HS.

18 Air Elite Jr. National Championships

Following on the heals of Air Max's championship was NW 18 Air Elite's great run in the open division to finish with a record of 6-4. In a field of 32 teams that earned a berth thru a national qualifier - the task at hand was huge. The final finish of 21st was not indicative of the great play by 18 Air Elite. Three of the four losses were by a combined total of 13 points. A heart breaking loss to the #1 seed in the tournament from Kansas City (25-18, 18-25, 15-17) knocked Air Elite out of the top 12 challenge bracket. Congrats to our graduating seniors = Cammie Irwin (S) Prairie HS, Katrina Zens (MH) Canby HS, Erica Cotton (DS/L) McNary HS and Kaleigh Nelson (OH) Sprague HS.

MONSTER thanks to all the parents from both teams for all the great support and friendship to make Jr. Nationals a fun and exciting time. Special thanks to the Irwin family for 13 years with (Nike) NW Jrs. and their three daughters.
